Jenea McCammon won MEAC gold in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday.
ResultsGREENSBORO, N.C. (May 3, 2014)-The Morgan State women's track and field team closed out the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track & Field championship with seven top five performances on Saturday, including two individual titles, as the Lady Bears finished fourth with a total of 74 points. The championships were held at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
Hampton, which claimed its third straight title and 11
th overall, scored a ridiculous 136 points on the final day of competition to finish with 154.50 total points. The Lady Pirates entered Saturday in sixth-place with 18.50 points. Florida A&M, who held the lead through the first two days, took second with 115 points, while Norfolk State placed third with 79 points. Bethune-Cookman finished with 70 points to round out the top five.
Norfolk State's Kiara Howell tallied 22 points to earn the outstanding field athlete award, while Hampton's Ce'aira Brown collected 22.50 points and was named the outstanding runner.
Senior
Ranita Mealer picked off where she left off yesterday, as she claimed the javelin title with a throw of 148-08. The day before Mealer won the shot put title and finished her final MEAC championship with a total of 20 points scored and two gold medals.
Morgan State grad student
Jenea McCammon, who spent her undergraduate career running competing at North Carolina A&T, had a successful return to Aggie Stadium. McCammon won gold in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.27 and placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.38.
McCammon also helped the 4X400 meter relay team of
Tere Cooley,
Teyanna Green and
Ekundayo Sogbesan place second in a time of 3:40.74. McCammon wasn't done yet, as she also joined teammates
Charisma Green,
Teyanna Green and
Shenel Crooke to help the Lady Bears' 4X100 meter relay team run a time of 46.14 to place fifth.
Tere Cooley came in third in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:11.49, while
Teyanna Green placed eighth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.95.
Ishakeema Swain finished the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:45.81 to place fifth, while
Nynneya Columbus placed eighth in a time of 4:50.68. Swain also placed seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:59.98.
Ajada Thomas had a mark of 38-11.00 in the triple jump to place sixth.
Morgan State would finish this year's MEAC championship with six All-MEAC selections. First-team All-MEAC honors went to
Ranita Mealer (shot put, javelin),
Jenea McCammon (400 meter hurdles) and
Ishakeema Swain (5000 meter run). Second-team honors went to the 4X400 meter relay team of
Tere Cooley,
Teyanna Green,
Jenea McCammon and
Ekundayo Sogbesan, while
Tere Cooley earned All-MEAC third team honors in the 800 meter run.
