GREENSBORO, N.C. – Morgan State was dominated by a talented, balanced team today.
Kwashaun Quick passed for 249 yards and four touchdowns, tailbacks Tarik Cohen and Marquelle Cartwright each had a TD run and North Carolina A&T overwhelmed Morgan State 45-0 on Saturday before 10,139 fans at Aggie Stadium.
It marked the first time since 2000 that the Aggies have defeated the Bears in Greensboro. It was also the first time the Bears have been shutout by an opponent since Nov. 10, 2012 when the Bears were blanked 30-0 at Norfolk State.
The Bears fell to 5-5 overall, and 4-2 in MEAC play. N.C. A&T improves to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference and puts the Aggies in a 3-way tie for first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title race.
N.C. A&T outgained the Bears 446-251 with 27 first downs to Morgan State's 8. The Bears were also held just 3-of-13 in third downs conversions, and went 0-for-3 in red zone scoring.
The Bears, who entered the game ranked No. 1 in the MEAC in rushing, struggled for most of the day, gaining 133 yards on 27 attempts. Sophomore running back
Herb Walker Jr., a member of the Walter Payton Watch List, was held to a season-low with 22 yards on 10 carries.
The Aggies defense, led by Marquis Ragland's 2.5 sacks and D'Vonte Graham's two interceptions, posted its first shutout against the Bears since a 49-0 win over Morgan State in 1990.yg
Quick sliced the Bears defense with his efficiency in A&T;s no-huddle offense. After being held to a three-and-out on the first drive, the Aggies quarterback engineered five consecutive scoring drives, four of which ended with touchdowns. The Aggies scored 14 points off of a pair of
Robert Council interceptions and took a 31-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Morgan State had its best scoring chance late in the third quarter, driving inside the red zone for the second time all night to the Aggies 9 yard line, but Skillon fumbled on a quarterback run and the Aggies recovered.
Council, who missed the previous two games, completed 3-of-9 passes for 30 yards, and led the Bears with 57 yards on the ground.
Moses Skillon relieved Council in the second half and posted 88 yards on 5-of-14 passing.
Cody Acker led the Bears defense with 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
Peterson Janvier and
Antonio Jefferson added eight stops apiece.
The Bears will close out the 2014 season with two games at home. Morgan State will host South Carolina State next Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m., followed by its season finale versus Delaware State on Nov. 22.

Herb Walker Jr.'s longest run was for 11 yards during the Bears last drive of the game
