Lady Bears Fall Short At Texas Tech, 65-57

LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 23, 2014)-The Morgan State women's basketball team returned to the road for a non-conference game against Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon and dropped a tough 65-57 decision to the Lady Raiders at United Supermarkets Arena.

The Lady Raiders (4-0) were led by freshman Dayo Olabode, who scored a career- and team-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. Olabode would also add a game-high 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. Kelsi Baker and Minta Spears each contributed 17 and 13 points, respectively, as the duo along with Olabode combined to score 52 of the team's 67 points. Ivonne CookTaylor hauled in 11 rebounds for Texas Tech, which improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Morgan State senior captain Tracey Carrington scored a game-high 27 points, including 14-of-19 from the free throw line, while adding five rebounds, an assist and two steals for Lady Bears. Fellow freshmen Braennan Farrar scored 10 points, while Zuri White pulled down a career- and game-high 11 rebounds in the loss.

Morgan State (2-3) recorded 13 steals with Jayde Duncan and Eva Myers leading the way with three apiece. Texas Tech had nine steals with four players each collecting two steals. The host Lady Raiders held the advantage in blocks (9-2) and assists (14-3).

Texas Tech shot 38 percent (23-of-60) for the game and 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the free throw line. Morgan State was held to 16-of-58 (27.6 percent) shooting and converted 21 of the 28 free throws taken for 75 percent.

The Lady Bears will complete their mini two-game swing against Big 12 Conference foes, when they travel to Stillwater, Okla. to take on No. 21 Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Gallagher-Iba Arena. This will be the second meeting between Morgan State and the Cowgirls, with Oklahoma State holding a 1-0 series lead. Oklahoma State is coming off a 77-36 win over Missouri State on Saturday.
