STILLWATER, Okla. (Nov. 26, 2014)-Brittany Atkins scored a game-high 17 points and Brittney Martin added 14 points, a game-high six rebounds and a game-high six steals to lead host Oklahoma State to a 73-43 non-conference victory over Morgan State on Tuesday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma State (4-1), which extended its home court winning streak against non-conference opponents to 36 straight, also got 10 points, five rebounds and a game-high five blocks from Liz Donohoe, while Kaylee Jensen came off the bench to record 10 points and five rebounds.
For nearly 16 minutes in the opening half, the Morgan State Lady Bears went toe-to-toe with the 20th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls.
Morgan State (2-3), which was led by Tracey Carrington's team-high 15 points and six rebounds, jumped out to a 5-0 lead with Carrington scoring all the points. A layup by Mandy Coleman with 14:13 left in the half, finally put the Cowgirls on the board and triggered a 13-4 run over the next four minutes to give the hosts a 13-9 lead with 8:27 to play.
Another Coleman layup gave the hosts a 17-14 lead, before Carrington scored the next four points, including a jumper with 4:36 remaining in the first half, giving Morgan State an 18-17 lead. However, the Cowgirls woke up and used a 12-1 spurt to take a 29-19 lead into the locker room during the intermission.
Oklahoma State opened up the second half on a 30-10 run over the course of the first 10 minutes to extend its lead to 30 points (59-29) with 10:18 left in the contest.
Morgan State shot 26 percent (16-of-61) from the floor, including 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) from three-point range. Braennan Farrar finished with 12 points and a team-high four steals for the Lady Bears. Carrington tallied three of the team's four assists.
The Cowgirls shot 52 percent (32-of-61) from the field and knocked down 5-of-16 (31 percent) from three-point range. Oklahoma State went to the free throw line just five times, connecting on four of them for 80 percent. Morgan State shot 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the charity stripe.
The Lady Bears will visit Bucknell on Wednesday, Dec. 3 for a non-conference game at Sojka Pavilion, Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa. The all-time series is tied at 1-1.
