Volleyball Falls Short In Upset Bid Over Top-Seed FAMU, 3-2

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 21, 2014)-Florida A&M rallied in the final two sets to knock off Morgan State, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of the 2014 MEAC Volleyball Championship at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.

The Lady Rattlers dropped the opening set, 25-20, but bounced back with a 25-20, second-set win. Morgan State grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third set with a 25-22 win. FAMU won the match with a fourth-set 25-21 win and took the deciding set, 15-9.

Florida A&M (12-14) advances to meet Howard at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Yeshia Arcia led Florida A&M with 17 kills and nine digs, while Pamela Soriano registered 13 kills and 16 digs. Valeria Lopez added 19 assists. Defensively, Joanie Del Castillo finished with 28 digs and Jordyn Wright chipped in with 11.

Zuri Smith and Dinah Jones finished with 17 and 16 kills, respectively to pace the Lady Bears offense. Carmen Fernandez recorded 28 assists and 11 digs. On the defensive side, Arianna Hayden recorded 21 digs, while Evely Macedo finished with 16 digs.

Morgan State concludes the season with a 13-13 overall record.
