BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 2, 2014)-The Morgan State volleyball team will play the second match of their season-ending three-match homestand when it hosts Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division contest this Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at Hill Field House.
The Lady Bears (12-11, 5-5 MEAC), are coming off a 3-1 home victory on Friday over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in their fifth annual 'Dig Pink' match. The win ended a season-long four-match losing skid.
Zuri Smith tallied a match-high 15 kills on 27 attempts for a match-high .481 hitting percentage and Tamara Leslie recorded a match-high 14 digs to lead host Morgan State past UMES. Arianna Hayden fell shy of a double-double, finishing with 13 kills and nine digs, while Evely Macedo did notch a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Samantha Prescott added 10 digs and seven kills and Carmen Fernandez totaled 41 assists for the Lady Bears, who swept the season series against the Lady Hawks.
Delaware State (1-22, 1-7 MEAC) which is in the midst of a seven-match losing skid, was dealt a 3-1 loss at Coppin State on Friday. Nevershi Ellis and Jasmine Jackson each recorded 12 kills, while Taylor Marshall and Natalia Mendieta each notched 18 assists in the loss. Ayanna Lee finished with a team-high 12 digs, while Ariana Stevens collected a match-high four blocks.
Sunday's match will be the 50th meeting between the two teams with Morgan State holding a 35-14 all-time series lead. The Lady Bears, who have won six straight against the Hornets, won this season's first meeting, 3-0 in Dover, Del. (10/5).
