BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 24, 2014)-The Morgan State volleyball team will look to end a season-long two match losing skid when it returns to action this evening with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division road match against Norfolk State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Echols Hall in Norfolk, Virginia.
Morgan State (11-9, 4-3 MEAC), which began the MEAC schedule winning four of its first five contests, has since dropped two straight, following a 3-2 loss at rival Coppin State (10/19). The loss was the Lady Bears' first two-match losing skid of the season since dropping two straight on the opening day of the season.
Samantha Prescott led the Lady Bears with 15 kills and added 10 digs to record a double-double. Dinah Jones hit for a team-high .478 and had 13 kills, while Arianna Hayden also had 13 kills against Coppin State. Carmen Fernandez notched a double-double with 48 assists and 12 digs. Tamara Leslie finished with a team-high 15 digs for the Lady Bears, who have split the last six meetings against Coppin State.
The Spartans (0-19, 0-7 MEAC) are still in search of their first win of the season, after a 3-0 set-back to their rival and division leader, Hampton (10/19). The loss was the 20th consecutive for Norfolk State dating back to last season.
Angie Darcus and Clarke Tyler led Norfolk State with five kills apiece against Hampton. Darcus also added 12 assists and four digs, while Adriana Ramos finished with nine digs.Â
Friday's match will mark the 24th meeting between Morgan State and Norfolk State with the Lady Bears holding an 18-5 series lead. The Lady Bears won this season's first meeting, 3-1 in Baltimore (10/3).
