Box Score

BALTIMORE. Md. – Ian Chiles scored a game-high 17 points and led four teammates in double-figures as Morgan State ran away with a 73-56 win against conference opponent South Carolina State on Saturday at Hill Field House.

"It was a good win," said Chiles.  "Any conference win is a good win. It's good to start off the conference season at 2-0. It was a good positive win for the team today."

Chiles shot 7 of 11 from the field and added six rebounds and four blocks to lead Morgan State (4-10, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to its seventh straight victory against the Bulldogs since 2010.

"I thought it was a total team effort," said Morgan State head coach Todd Bozeman.  "I thought we had a couple of plays where we did a great job defensively, and one possession in the first half was one of the best since we've been here."

Anthony Hubbard registered his third consecutive double-double performance with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Shaquille Duncan and Cedric Blossom added 13 points and 12 respectively.

The Bears got 28 points from the bench.

"I think the bench was in the game from start to finish -- I thought they had energy, but we clearly have a lot of work still to do. We did not shoot the ball well from the free throw line (13-23 FT), which is not good… but we did rebound. Hubb [Hubbard] did a good job rebounding for us as he always does which was big for us. It was a great team effort and we just got to keep improving."

Matthew Hezekiah scored 16 points and Jalen White added 12 to lead S.C. State (5-10, 1-1 MEAC).  Matthews also had six rebounds for the Bulldogs, who were outrebounded by Morgan State by a 43-37 margin.

Morgan State held a 13-point margin in the first half and forced the Bulldogs to commit 17 turnovers.

The Bulldogs used a 9-2 run and Jalen White's runner in the lane trimmed the lead to 52-42.

Morgan State answered with a 16-6 run and Anthony Hubbard nailed a three-pointer from the corner to extend to a 62-46 lead with 3:47 left. The Bears led by as many as 20 points as they cruised to the finish.

"I think it was a really big win for the team," Hubbard said. "I think we played together the best we have all season. We are trying to go undefeated in the conference, and this is the best way to do it."

Morgan State shot 43 percent (28-64) from the field, including 36 points in the paint and a season-high eight dunks.  The Bulldogs shot 34 percent from the floor and went 2 of 13 from three-point territory.
