Box Score HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 29, 2013)-Hampton's Vendula Strakova recorded a match-high 23 kills and had a hitting percentage of .618 to lead the host Lady Pirates to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-18) sweep of Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match on Sunday afternoon at Holland Hall.
The Lady Pirates (8-7, 2-0 MEAC) would finish the match with 44 kills and a hitting percentage of .437 to Morgan State's 27 kills and .134. The hosts followed up a hitting percentage of .385 with 11 kills and just one error on 26 attempts in the opening set with 14 kills, one error and a hitting percentage of .542 in Set 2.
Krista Kraskura had a match-high eight digs and Bibiany Fonseca finished with a match-high 37 assists for Hampton. Hampton also collected 10 service aces with Marija Kocevska recording a match-high three. However, the Lady Pirates did have 11 service errors.
Morgan State (5-10, 0-2 MEAC) was led by
Samantha Prescott,
Arianna Hayden and
Dinah Jones, who all finished with a team-high six kills. Prescott also added a team-high six digs, along with
Tamara Leslie, who also had six digs.
Ngebui Chafeh finished with 24 assists.
Hampton out blocked Morgan State 3.0-1.0 for the match. Sonja Maksimovic led the Lady Pirates with two blocks.
Janelle Wilson, who picked up an assisted block with Chafeh, moved into a tie for ninth-place with former Lady Bear Dorothy Buford (1997-00) with 194 career blocks.
The Lady Bears will look to end their current two-match losing skid, when they travel to Norfolk, Va. next Thursday, Oct. 3 to take on Norfolk State in a MEAC North Division match. The Spartans (5-11, 1-1 MEAC) are coming off a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-23) sweep of visiting Coppin State on Sunday.
