Samantha Prescott totaled a match-high 12 kills and
Haley McClure added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to lead Morgan State to a 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15) non-conference victory over host Providence on Saturday morning at Alumni Hall. The win ended a three-match losing skid and was the Lady Bears' first of the Friar Classic.
Morgan State (4-8), which also improved to a perfect 3-0 all-time against the Friars, received 10 digs from
Tamara Leslie and 31 assists by
Ngebui Chafeh.
The Lady Bears tallied 40 kills and had a .266 hitting percentage, while Providence finished with a .165 hitting percentage and 45 kills.
Kayla Fitzgerald led the Friars with a team-high 11 kills and a match-high 15 digs, while Lindsay Witt added 10 kills. Jordan Wiesler had a match-high 33 assists.
Providence (5-9) and Morgan State both notched 6.0 blocks. The Friars were led by Nicole Fletcher's four blocks, while
Zuri Smith led the Lady Bears with three blocks, including one solo.
The Lady Bears will conclude the ninth annual Friar Classic with a 5 p.m. match this evening against St. Francis-N.Y.
