BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 17, 2013)-The Morgan State volleyball team won its 2013 home opener on Tuesday evening, but defeating La Salle, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) in a non-conference match at Hill Field House.
Samantha Prescott led the Lady Bears with a team-high eight kills and a team-high seven digs, while
Janelle Wilson and
Zuri Smith each added seven kills to help Morgan State improve to 2-6 all-time against La Salle.
Ngebui Chafeh finished with 29 assists. Chafeh and Smith notched a team-high four blocks apiece for the Lady Bears.
The Explorers (1-12), who dropped their 12
th consecutive match, were led by Laura Kuhlmeier's match-high 14 kills. Elena Lamping added eight digs and Rachel Melich totaled 24 assists and a match-high four service aces.
Morgan State (3-7) finished the match with a hitting percentage of .274, while La Salle hit for a .116.
The Lady Bears will head to Providence, R.I. this weekend for the Ninth Annual Friar Classic (Sept. 20-21). Morgan State will take on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe, Howard at 5 p.m. on Friday, before squaring off against host Providence on Saturday at 9 a.m. and St. Francis-N.Y. at 1 p.m.
