Quinnipiac Defeats Morgan State On Day 2 Of Crosstown Invitational, 3-1

Box Score EASTON, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2013)-A day after setting a career-high in digs, Samantha Prescott recorded a career- and match-high 22 digs to go with nine kills, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Bears dropped a 3-1 (25-14, 16-25, 25-27, 21-25) decision to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon on Day 2 of the Lafayette/Lehigh Crosstown Invitational. The match was played at the Kirby Sports Center on the campus of Lafayette.

Brittanie Robinson tallied a match-high 12 kills and added 17 digs to lead Quinnipiac to its second consecutive win over Morgan State and more importantly for the Bobcats a 2-2 finish in the tournament. Logan Riker added 17 digs for the Bobcats, while Emma Ogden added a double-double with 29 assists to go with 14 digs in the win.

Morgan State's Arianna Hayden finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs, while Tamara Leslie totaled 18 digs. Ngebui Chafeh contributed a match-high 34 assists and Haley McClure tallied 11 digs.

The Lady Bears (2-6) went back-and-forth with Quinnipiac in the first set holding a slim 15-14 lead after two consecutive errors by the Lady Bears. Morgan State regrouped and scored 10 consecutive points to take the set 25-14. The Lady Bears finished the set with 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .367. The Bobcats were held to five kills and a -.103 percentage.

The Bobcats (2-8) extended their lead to 13-4, forcing a second Morgan State timeout. Three straight aces by Logan Riker increased the Quinnipiac lead to 20-9. Morgan State put together a 5-0 run in the midst of a 7-1 spurt to get as close as 21-16. The Bobcats then scored the final four points of the match to earn the 25-16 victory and even up the set at 1-1. Quinnipiac tallied 10 kills in the set, while limited Morgan State to just four kills.

Morgan State battled back in the third set from a 24-21 deficit to score four straight points to take a 25-24 lead, following a kill from Chafeh. However, Morgan State could not put the Bobcats away. Quinnipiac would score the next three points for the 27-25 victory.

Quinnipiac jumped out early in the fourth set, taking an 8-1 lead. Morgan State got within 19-15 after a kill from Prescott, but the Bobcats upped their lead to 24-19 and eventually won 25-21 to claim the set and match victory.

The Lady Bears finished the match out blocking the Bobcats, 11-7. Janelle Wilson led the way with a career- and match-high nine blocks.

Morgan State closes out the tournament this afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. match against host Lafayette.
