Softball Splits MEAC Doubleheader At UMES

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (April 27, 2013)-The Morgan State softball team entered Saturday's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division doubleheader against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) fighting for its postseason life with every conference game. The Lady Bears would split the series against UMES, winning the first game 6-0, before falling 13-10 in the second game at Hawks Field.
 
The Lady Bears (6-32, 3-10 MEAC), who entered the weekend sitting in sixth-place in the league standings, behind fifth-place UMES (13-30, 4- MEAC), would break a scoreless game with six runs in the seventh, to extend its winning streak to a season-best four straight with their Game 1 victory.
 
After a single and double by Taylor McDougall and Zina Constancia, respectively, to begin the seventh inning, Kimberly Fontaine followed with a two-run single, giving the guests a 2-0 lead. Three batters later Shareday Christina singled to load the bases for Danielle Lugo who cleared the bases with a three-run double and advanced to third to extend the lead to 5-0. Lugo would then score on a sacrifice fly by Tiffany Rubin for the sixth and final run.
 
Morgan State junior pitcher Jordan Eades picked up the win, while Carmen Gurrola of UMES was charged with the loss. Eades pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and tallied four strikeouts.
 
Lugo led the Lady Bears with a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and a game-high 3RBI. Fontaine finished 1-for-3 with a run and 2RBI.
