BALTIMORE, Md. (April 13, 2013)-Norfolk State erupted for seven runs in the top of the second inning and built a 14-0 lead after three and a half innings en route to a 17-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division victory over host Morgan State on Saturday night at Coppin State Field.
The game was moved to the Coppin State campus due to the inclement weather which hit the Baltimore area Friday night and Lois T. Murray Field was unplayable. Norfolk State and Morgan State will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Both games will be played at Lois T. Murray Field.
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning. The Spartans (16-18, 9-1 MEAC) added two more runs in the third and five in the fourth to extend their cushion to 14-0.
Morgan State (2-28, 0-7 MEAC) got its offense going in the bottom half of the fourth inning, scoring six runs on five hits to pull within 14-6.
The Spartans would answer back with three runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 17-6. Morgan State would score its final run of the game when

Haley Ward led Norfolk State with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, four RBI and a run scored. Alina Moriarty went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a game-high six RBI.

Tiffany Rubin and Lugo all went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Lady Bears. Christina was 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a team-high two runs.
