Lady Bears Drop Two On Final Day Of Tiger Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2013)-The Morgan State softball team dropped their final two games on Sunday in the TSU Tiger Invitational, falling to eventual tournament champion Bradley, 15-2 and then losing to IUPUI by a score of 4-2.
 
With the losses the Lady Bears went 1-3 over the weekend in tournament play and finished in third place.
 
In the first game against Bradley, the Braves who went 4-0 over the weekend, jumped out to a 6-0 lead with six runs in the top of the first inning.
 
The Lady Bears (1-9) scored a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Braves would add a run in the second inning, before scoring five more in the fourth and three in the fifth to extend their cushion to 15-1.
 
Morgan State then scored a run in the bottom of the fifth before the game was called off due to the eight-run mercy rule.
 
Bradley (7-6) was led by Alyson Clemente who went 4-for-4 on the day with three runs scored and had 3 RBI. Marina Groenewegen was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and two runs scored and Kathryn Spenn finished 1-for-1, while driving in two runs and scoring twice.
 
Mackenzie Camp (2-2) picked up the victory for the Braves, while Morgan State's Shanice Crowder was charged with the loss.
 
Camp pitched four innings and allowed one run on two hits, two walks and had three strikeouts. Crowder pitched a complete game and had a strikeout.
 
Rubin and Eades were named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team. Joining them on the all-tournament team were: Alyson Clemente-MVP, Brittany Burgess, Mackenzie Camp and Brianne Joseph of Bradley; Kelsey Rupert and Nikki Thomas of IUPUI; Leah Bry and Meaghan Sullivan of Butler and Ashley Haynes and Olivia Gamache of Tennessee State.
 
Morgan State will return to action this weekend when they compete in the UMBC Retriever Classic (March 1-3). The Lady Bears take on host UMBC on March 1st at 11:30 a.m.
