Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 6, 2013)-The Morgan State volleyball team capped off the 2013 Homecoming festivities on Sunday evening with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-22) victory over Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match at Hill Field House.
The Lady Bears improved to 6-11 overall and 1-3 in MEAC action, while ending a three-match losing skid. Delaware State dropped to 1-12 on the season and 0-3 in the MEAC.
Morgan State had a team hitting percentage of .271 for the match with 36 kills on 85 attempts and 13 errors. The Hornets hit for a .086 with 24 kills and 17 errors.
Samantha Prescott recorded a match-high 11 kills and had six digs, as all nine Lady Bear players that played recorded at least a kill.
Zuri Smith had eight kills and a match-high four blocks, while
Ngebui Chafeh finished with a match-high 29 assists.
Shanotta Bawek notched a team-high seven digs to go with four kills and
Tamara Leslie added six digs.
Delaware State was led by Edarkis Branch, who tallied a team-high eight kills and Jasmine Jackson added seven kills and a team-high seven digs. Natalia Mendieta recorded 18 assists for the Hornets, who have dropped their last eight contests.
The Lady Bears finished with seven service aces, but committed 10 errors. Chafeh led Morgan State with a match-high three aces and Bawek added two aces.
Morgan State had a 5.0-1.0 blocking advantage over Delaware State, with Smith leading the way with four blocks.
Janelle Wilson added a block, moving her past former Lady Bear, Kyria Jones (1994-97) for sole position of eighth-place all-time at Morgan State with 198 blocks.
Morgan State, which is 2-0 at home this season, returns to action on Friday, Oct. 11 when it hosts the two-time defending MEAC champions, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Lady Hawks (2-13, 1-2 MEAC) are coming off a 3-0 loss at Coppin State on Sunday. It was their first loss to Coppin State since September 27, 2005.
