Zuri Smith totaled a team-high 14 kills and
Janelle Wilson and
Samantha Prescott each added nine kills, as the Lady Bears upset top-seed Hampton, 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 27-25) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
The win moved the Lady Bears into a three-way tie with Norfolk State and rival Coppin State, all with identical 5-4 league records.
Arianna Hayden led Morgan State with a match-high 18 digs, while
Ngebui Chafeh recorded a team-high 35 assists for the Lady Bears.
Vendula Strakova finished with a match-high 22 kills and Sonja Maksimovic added 16 kills for the Lady Pirates, who have now lost their last six consecutive sets, during their two-match losing skid. Bibiany Fonseca had a match-high 38 assists, while Sheileen Pagan had a team-high seven digs in the loss.
Morgan State will now head to the road, when it takes on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, Oct. 31 in Princess Anne, Md. First serve is at 7 p.m.
