The Monarchs (1-1) hit 25 of 54 (46 percent) from the field, including 54 percent in the second half, while MSU shot 43 percent (25-58). But the biggest difference in the ballgame for the Bears was at the free throw line.

Morgan State head coach Todd Bozeman spoke about his team's free throw woes.

“On our end you're not going to win many games win you shoot 5 for 17 (29 percent) from the free throw line and 6 for 20 (30 percent) from the three. We have some things we have to work on and improve, and we'll move on from there.”

ODU held a 38-36 advantage on the boards, but like the Bears, the Monarchs had a hard time converting free throws (25-54) and shooting from 3-point territory (5-16).

Jackson tossed an alley-oop to Hubbard to help spark a 12-5 run by the Bears to begin the second half. A reverse lay-in by Hubbard gave the Bears its largest lead of the game at 39-33 with 15:48 left to go.

The Monarchs answered with a 12-5 run of its own led by Dimitri Batten. Batten scored 10 of the Manarch's 12 points during the run punctuated by a dunk over Jackson who was charged with his 3rd foul at the 13:03 mark.

ODU opened a 3-point lead with 7:50 remaining and was able to slowly extend its lead by capitalizing on Bear turnovers and hitting free throws down the stretch.
