Boxscore

SAVANNAH, Ga.
Travis Davidson rushed for three touchdowns and gained 125 yards, and Morgan State had a second half explosion to beat Savannah State 45-6 on Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest.

When the teams last met in Baltimore in 2011, Morgan State ran out to a 17-10 halftime lead before pulling out a 44-17 Homecoming win. This time, the Bears led 14-6 at the break, but had just about the same results.

With the win, the Bears extended to a 7-0 winning streak against Savannah State, and it marked the fifth consecutive time the Bears have posted 40 or more points against the Tigers.

Robert Council, making his first career start, completed 6-of-10 passes for 71 yards and rushed for 23 yards for Morgan State (3-2, 2-0), which hasn't gotten off to a start this good in conference play since 2009.

The Bears offense was stuck in neutral for much of the first half, especially with Davidson, the league's leading rusher, playing limited minutes due to a hip injury.

Savannah State led early on scored on their second possession of the ball game. Antonio Bostick tossed to Dillon Cook broke a Joe Rankin tackle and got down to the MSU 4 yard line. Two plays later Bostic scored on a 1-yard plunge. The Tigers' point after attempt was blocked, leaving them with an early 6-0 lead with 8:20 remaining in the 1st quarter.

Chris Flowers took the ensuing kickoff return 88-yards for a touchdown. The point after by Earvin Gonzalez lifted the Bears to a 7-6 lead with 8:06 to go in the first half.

It was the second time Flowers had returned a kickoff for a touchdown since 2010 against Delaware State.

Savannah State's special teams unit continued to struggle.

Late in the second quarter Jacob Thomas booted a 9-yard punt giving the Bears a start on the Tigers' 21 yard line. On 3rd and 15 from the 26, Council broke the pocket and weaved his way 21-yards to give the Bears 1st and goal from the 6. Two plays later Brian Mann broke two tackles to get into the endzone from 3 yards out. The Gonzalez extra point extended the lead to 14-6 with 1:50 remaining before halftime.

Antonio Bostic provided most of the offense for the Tigers tonight. The junior quarterback completed 11-of-22 passes for 112 yards and had 66 yards on 15 carries, including a touchdown.

The Bears finished the night with 368 total yards, 272 yards on the ground, while Savannah State posted 248 total yards.

Morgan State extended their lead during the opening possession of the second half when Davidson scored in from 1 yard out at the 12:14 mark to extend the lead to 21-6.

Davidson raced 80 yards on the Bears next possession to help provide a 28-6 cushion at the 7:11 mark in the 3rd quarter.  He ended up revisiting the endzone from 7-yards out to give the Bears a 38-6 advantage by the end of the quarter.

MSU would go on to outscore the Tigers 31-0 in the second half.
