WASHINGTON, D.C. – Terrence Leffall ran for a game-high 134 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries to help Howard escape with a 21-20 homecoming victory over Morgan State Saturday at Greene Stadium.

Howard (5-2, 4-1) notched its first win against the Bears since a 42-35 victory on October 16, 2004 at Greene Stadium. As a result of the loss, MSU head coach Donald Hill-Eley's career mark against the Bison dropped to 10-2 since 2002.

Morgan State (3-4, 2-2) quarterback Robert Council capped an 89 yard drive by eluding a sack and racing 35 yards for a touchdown.

On the ensuing point after attempt that would have tied the ballgame, the snap was low and placekicker Earvin Gonzalez scooped it off the turf and tried to make a play by throwing the ball. His pass was intercepted by Howard's Tabrian Resby.

Trailing 21-20 with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game, the Bears attempted an onside kick but it was recovered by Howard. As a result of MSU having exhausted their timeouts, the Bison proceeded to run out the remaining 2:27 on the clock to secure the win.

Seth Higgins started for the first time since the Sept. 27 game at North Carolina A&T game. However, Council took over the signal-calling in the second quarter and completed the game. Council completed 11 of 20 passes for 131 yards, and was 4 of 5 on the Bears final drive. Higgins threw for 42 yards on 5 of 14 passing.

The Bears started the game with an impressive opening drive. Higgins engineered a 12 play, 72 yard drive that consumed 5:14 and Travis Davidson's 6-yard run helped give the Bears a 7-0 lead with 9:46 to in the first quarter.
The Bears had two other potential scoring opportunities, when Brian Mann came up short on a 4th and goal from the 1-yard line, and a 42-yard field goal attempt by Gonzalez was blocked at the 4:41 mark of the second quarter.

Howard's Johnathan Booker caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Randy Liggins in the final seconds of the first half. Parker Munoz hit the extra point to knot the ballgame at 7.

The Bison came out of halftime and scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter. A fake punt play helped lead to backup quarterback Greg McGhee's 1-yard TD run. With just over a minute remaining in the quarter, Gonzalez had his punt blocked to give the Bison 1st & 10 from the Bears 16 yard line. Two plays later scored on 4-yard TD to extend the lead to 21-7.

The Bears were not done. Council led the Bears on a 10-play drive early in the fourth quarter and Davidson's 5-yard touchdown trimmed Howard's lead to 21-14 with 11:15 to go.

Davidson finished with 104 yards on 27 carries. It marked his 11th rushing touchdown of the season and the fifth time he has rushed for over 100 yards.

Chris Eugene led the Bears with nine tackles, while Darien Irby finished with seven tackles and returned a fumble 25-yards.

MSU will play at home against the Delaware State Hornets. The matchup is set for Thursday, October 25 and will be televised by ESPNU. Kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
