2011 MSU SCHEDULE & RESULTS

OFFICIAL HOWARD WEBSITE

OPENING KICKOFF
The Bears will face the Howard Bison in the conference-opener when they hit the gridiron on Saturday (Sept. 24) for the Whitney Young Classic.  The Bison will look to bounce back from a 23-9 conference loss to Norfolk State last Saturday at Greene Stadium. MSU will attempt to build on a hard fought 13-12 victory against Robert Morris. Game time at MetLife Stadium is scheduled for 3:34 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNU (tape delayed) and live on ESPN3. There will also be a live radio broadcast of the game on WEAA, 88.9 FM.

THE BEARS-HOWARD MATCHUP
• The Bears and Bison will meet for the 65th time in history ... Morgan leads the series 39-24-1.
• MSU head coach Donald Hill-Eley holds an 8-1 record against the Bison since 2002 ... the last time Howard defeated MSU was in 2004 by a score of 42-35.
• MSU has beaten Howard during their last six matchups, including 8 of their last 9 meetings.
•  Last season's MEAC-opener finished with a 20-3 victory against Howard in the Whitney Young Classic.

CONFERENCE OPENERS
• MSU is 2-7 under head coach Donald Hill-Eley in home-openers since 2002.
• Coach Hill won his first conference-opener on Oct. 3, 2009 when his Bears defeated Bethune-Cookman 24-13.

Z-BEST
Up front, senior defensive end Zary Stewart (Upper Marlboro, Md.) is starting to emerge after a slow start. The 6-4, 260 pounder stayed in the weight room during the offseason and emerged stronger and faster. So far this season, Zary has 11 tackles (8 solo), 4 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two QB hurries in the Bears' first three games. He is a relentless pass rusher with a terrific motor and will certainly be one to watch as the Bears prepare to get started in conference play.

QUICK HITS
•  Against Robert Morris, redshirt freshman Robert Council completed 4-of-8 passes for 93 yards and threw the first touchdown of his career when he connected with Tyrone Hendrix for a 56-yard strike.
•  After giving up 534 total yards to Towson and 572 yards to Bowling Green, the Bears defense limited Robert Morris to 254 yards.
•  Michael Dallas II has made an immediate impact as the Bears leading tackler so far this season... the redshirt-freshman linebacker has collected 26 tackles (MEAC ranked #12) averaging almost 9 tackles per contest.
•  MSU sophomore placekicker Abraham Mercado has connected on 5-of-7 field goals (MEAC ranked #4).
• After Saturday's contest the Bears will host conference opponent North Carolina A&T ... Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
