Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh was named MEAC Player of the Week.
NORFOLK, Va. (Aug. 30, 2011)-Morgan State sophomore #Ngebui (Natalie) Chafeh# was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, while freshman Nangeeshie Plaud earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
A native of Fontana, Calif., Chafeh totaled 109 assists, 22 digs, 14 kills, five blocks and a service ace to lead Morgan State to a 2-1 mark last weekend at the La Salle Invitational. The 5-foot-10 setter recorded a career-high 47 assists in a five-set win over Providence to lead Morgan State to its first 2-0 start since the 1999 season. Chafeh would be named to the all-tournament team and also received MVP honors.
Plaud concluded the weekend with 29 kills and 25 digs, three aces and two assists in three matches for the Lady Bears. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter from Partillas, Puerto Rico, made her Morgan State debut recording a team-high 11 kills for a hitting percentage of .308 and added eight digs and an ace in the opening win over Saint Peter's. Plaud then notched her first career double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 10 digs in a 3-2 win over Providence.
