BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore guard DeWayne Jackson and junior forward Kevin Thompson of Morgan State University's men's basketball team were named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Conference Team. Freshman Justin Black was selected to the All-Rookie Team. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the MEAC and sports information director.
Jackson, the 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year, leads the Bears in scoring and completed the
regular season by averaging 14.3 points per game (10th best in the MEAC) and has scored 402 points. Jackson also ranks as the team's third leading rebounder, and posted a career-high 31 points in the season-opener against Loyola Marymount. He has scored double-figures 40 times during his career.
Joining Jackson on the First Team is C.J. Reed (Bethune-Cookman), Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk State), Thomas Coleman (North Carolina A&T) and Darrion Pellum (Hampton).
Reed was named as the 2011 MEAC Player of the Year and O'Quinn was selected Defensive Player of the Year.
Thompson, the MEAC's 2010 Defensive Player of the Year, continues to be one of the league's most dominant post players. The junior ranks No. 3 in the conference in rebounding (8.9rebounds per game), and is currently averaging 12.5 points per game. Thompson has posted 12 double-doubles (points & rebounds) in 28 games so far this season. He is currently shooting 51.1percent (ranks No. 6) and has 34 blocked shots (ranks No. 7).
Joining Thompson on the Second Team is Michael Harper (Coppin State), Kwame Morgan (Hampton), Hillary Haley (UMES) and Alexander Starling (Bethune-Cookman).
Justin Black, a 6-2 guard from St. Louis, Mo., completed the season by averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds and has tallied 25 steals in 28 games. Jackson scored a career-high 20 points at La Salle (Nov. 20).
The Morgan State Bears will enter the upcoming MEAC men's basketball tournament with a 15-13 (10-6) regular season record and will be a Number 4 seed.
