Kendrick Wins 400m Title; Lady Bears Place Fifth At MEAC

LANDOVER, Md. (Feb. 20, 2011)-Tanisha Kendrick captured the 400 meter dash title on Saturday during the final day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

The Lady Bears concluded the 2011 conference championship with a fifth-place finish after scoring a total of 58 points.

Hampton captured the program's ninth overall indoor championship, posting a total of 188.50 points. The Lady Pirates' score broke their previous meet record of 179 points in 2007. Norfolk State finished second with 102 points and Maryland Eastern Shore was third with 100 points.

Kendrick, who earned her 400m title with a winning time of 55.16, also scored a point for the Lady Bears in the 200 meter dash with her eighth-place time of 25.63. She then teamed up with Ekundayo Sogbesan, Brittney Whattley and Teyanna Green to help the 4X400 meter relay team to a fourth-place finish, crossing the line at 3:51.03.

Monae Waller had a good weekend, finishing up with a sixth-place finish in the pentathlon with 3181 points.

The Lady Bears will return to action on March 4-6, when they travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the ECAC/IC4A championships.
