HIGGINS HONORED AS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

NORFOLK, Va. – True freshman quarterback Seth Higgins of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 9, 2011 the league announced Monday.
 
Chris Walley of Norfolk State and Asheton Jordan of South Carolina State were selected as Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while North Carolina A&T's Tony Mashburn was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Jose Garcia-Camacho, also of North Carolina A&T, earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
 
Higgins, making his second start of the season, completed 14-of-24 passes for 239 yards and tossed four touchdowns in the Bears' 44-14 homecoming victory over Savannah State last Saturday. With the win, Higgins improved to 2-0 as the Bears' starter and has thrown for 408 yards on 36-of-64 passes (56.2 pct.).

Higgins' performance marked the first time a Bear player had thrown for four touchdowns since October 6, 2001 when LeJominick Washington tossed four TDs in a 52-42 win against North Carolina A&T.

MSU posted a season-high 430 yards on offense with Higgins leading the way through the air. In addition, it was the first time an MSU team had thrown four touchdowns since a 2001 contest against North Carolina A&T.
 
The Bears, who are 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in the MEAC, resume their schedule on Saturday against conference opponent North Carolina Central (1-4, 0-2). The game will be broadcast by WEAA, 88.9 FM. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
