The Opening Tip
Morgan State, the 2010 MEAC champions, hosts Loyola on Monday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Bears' home-opener at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md. MSU 2-3 will look to rebound from a 59-52 loss against North Florida last Wednesday (Nov. 24) in the Division Championship of the Cancun Challenge in Mexico. Loyola fell to 2-2 following tough 51-48 loss at Vermont. Monday night's game will mark the 16th meeting between the teams.
The Last Time Out
CANCUN, Mexico --  North Florida had a balanced attack and pulled off another a win, beating Morgan State 59-52 in the Mayan Division championship game of the 2010 Cancun Challenge in Mexico on Wednesday. The Ospreys (3-3) led by 10 through the second half, withstood Morgan State's late rally and held on down the stretch to earn their first victory against a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent.
Loyola's Last Game
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Vermont made four free throws in the final 1:49 and held Loyola University Maryland scoreless for the final 2:37, en route to a 51-48 non-conference victory on Wednesday night in Patrick Gymnasium. Joey Accaoui hit a pair of free throws with 1:49 remaining to give Vermont a 49-48 lead, and Simeon Marsalis made two from the charity stripe with 10.2 seconds left for the host Catamounts (3-1 overall), who won the America East Conference and advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
Series History
♦ Monday night's game will be the 16th meeting between the two teams.
♦ The Greyhounds lead the series 10-6 since 1952, and have won in the last five meetings.
♦ In their last meeting on Dec. 2, 2009 at Loyola, Reggie Holmes scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the first half, but Morgan State was unable to recover from a second half spurt as Loyola pulled away with a 78-66 victory at Reitz Arena in a regionally televised non-conference contest. Kevin Thompson added 16 points and 14 rebounds, while DeWayne Jackson chipped in 11.

Frequent Flyer Miles
Morgan State starts the season off with a couple of non-conference games located nowhere near 1700 East Cold Spring Lane. The Bears travelled 2,293 miles to play Loyola Marymount, followed by a 323 mile trip to Providence and a relatively short trip 89 miles to LaSalle. The Bears also play in the Cancun Challenge where they will need a passport to fly 1,390 to Mexico on Nov. 23-24 …That's over 4,000 travel miles logged.

Todd Bozeman has coached the Bears to a terrific home record since joining Morgan State. Bozeman has led the Bears to a 35-6 (.854) current home record inside the confines of Hill Field House, including wins over Towson on December 22, Delaware State (Jan. 23), UMES (Jan. 25), FAMU (Feb. 7), Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 8), Winston-Salem State (Feb. 13), Norfolk State (Feb. 27), N.C. A&T (March 1) and Coppin State (March 4).
♦  S.C. State's 71-68 win at Hill Field House on Feb. 15th handed the Bears its first home loss since Feb. 23, 2009 in a 49-47 loss against Hampton.
♦ The average margin of loss at home in the past three seasons is 8.6 pts, including a 83-63 loss vs. Seton Hall on Nov. 26, 2006 at Hill Field House.
Thompson's Hospitality
♦ MSU junior Kevin Thompson is set to lead the Bears this season...the 6-foot-9 forward was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was the league's most dominant post player during the 2009-10 season ... As a sophomore, Thompson averaged 12.7 points per game, 11.9 rebounds (4th best in the nation) and completed the season with 22 double-doubles (pts & rebs). He has  started the 2010-11 season by notching four double-double performances in five games, including a 10 points and 10 rebounds outing against North Florida..
Numbers Game
♦ Morgan State had an 11-game winning streak snapped by S.C. State on Feb. 15 and bounced back with a win against the MEAC's No. 2 ranked Delaware State on Feb. 17 ... The Bears won 18 of its last 23 games.

♦ Morgan State completed the 2009-10 season as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champs, it marked the Bears second consecutive MEAC Title and they also captured their third consecutive regular season title.
DeWayne Jackson, the 2010 MEAC Rookie of the Year, had a career-high 31 point explosion against Loyola Marymount in the Bears season-opener, but was held to 6 points (0-5 3FG) at Providence and 7 points at LaSalle. He led the Bears with 12 points and 6 rebounds with 2 blocks against North Florida.

♦ Morgan State was picked to finish as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champs again this year … the Bears received 20 first place votes and totaled 476 points to garner the league's top position for the second year in a row. 
♦ Morgan State is currently shooting 31 percent from three-point territory (22-70 3FG).
Aric Brooks has been the most accurate from long-range thru the first five ballgames ... Brooks has connected on 4-of-9 triples (.444) ... Justin Black is shooting 43 percent (6-14 3FG).
