BALTIMORE, Md – In the end, Bethune-Cookman was just better than Morgan State today.

A dominating 69-32 victory over Morgan State extended the Wildcats' record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The loss marked the most points scored against the Bears since a 65-15 loss at South Carolina State in 2005, and it was the most points an opponent has scored against the Bears at Hughes Stadium since 2003 when Maine posted a 77-24 win.

Despite scoring its most points in two seasons, the Bears' record fell to 1-1 in the conference and 2-3 overall.

Morgan State finished the game by committing eight turnovers, four by air (interceptions) and four by ground (fumbles).

“There wasn't an effort on either side of the ball,” said MSU coach Donald Hill-Eley. “You can't play well when you're turning the ball over eight times. You can't beat a little league team like that.”

“At this point we're making some crazy decisions and we just need to get back and make some corrections and watch film.”

Morgan State's starting quarterback Donovan Dickerson completed just eight of his 25 passes for 74 yards, including three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Androse Bell rushed for two touchdowns as the Wildcats gained 366 yards on the ground. Matt Johnson completed 13 of 18 passes for 261 of Bethune's 274 yards passing.

Morgan State, held to 247 yards total offense, got touchdowns from Tyrone Hendrix on a 93-yard kickoff return and Nico Scott on a 44-yard interception return and trailed 42-26 at halftime. But Ryan Lewis returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown a minute into the third quarter, and Bethune-Cookman went on to outscore the Bears 27-6 in the second half.

Isidore Jackson was the Wildcats' leading rusher with 101 yards on 13 carries.

The Wildcats wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard when Johnson connected with Eddie Poole for a 70-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game to give B-CU its first score of the ballgame.  The Bears ended up falling behind 35-3, and despite an offensive explosion just before halftime, Morgan trailed 42-26 at the break.

“We only have five seniors on the team, one of the offensive side of the ball, and it's our youth that caught up with us. We just have to start moving some people around and see what happens.”
