WEST POINT, N.Y. (Sept 18, 2009)-The Morgan State volleyball team split Day 1 of the West Point Challenge defeating Quinnipiac 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) in the opener, before dropping a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) decision to Binghamton.
Ivanti Bush recorded a match-high 12 kills and Erin Cox added 10, as Morgan State ended a two-match losing skid with a sweep of Quinnipiac in the first match of the day.
Jourdan Lemons finished with 24 assists, while also adding eight digs, three kills and two blocks for the Lady Bears. Bush and Delissa Carline tied for the team lead in digs with nine, while Kierra Riley totaled four blocks.
Quinnipiac (0-9) was led by Kelby Carey's eight kills. Logan Riker notched a match-high 14 digs and Kayla Lawler added 20 assists.
In Morgan's second match of the day, Anna Lejina recorded a match-high 18 kills and Michelle McDonough added a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs to lead Binghamton (6-5) to the non-conference win.
Lindsey Mueller had 35 of the Bearcats' 41 assists and Dawn Lammert finished with five blocks to help Binghamton out block Morgan State 7-4.
The Lady Bears finished the match with 24 kills, while Binghamton had 46 for a hitting percentage of .281 to Morgan's .049.
Morgan State was led by Ivanti Bush's six kills, while Rhyan Shy and Macie Wyly added five kills apiece. Delissa Carline totaled a match-high 15 digs and Bush and Shy collected 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Lady Bears (5-11) will be off until Sunday, Sept 20, when they take on Iowa and host Army to conclude the West Point Challenge.
