BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 15, 2009)-Freshman Ali Loynachan recorded 10 kills with only one error and Kira Giles finished with 28 assists to lead host Maryland Baltimore County to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-11) non-conference sweep of Morgan State on Tuesday evening at the RAC Arena. The loss was Morgan's third straight to the Retrievers, who now lead the all-time series 11-1.

 

Morgan State (4-10), which dropped its – consecutive match, was led by Ivanti Bush's five kills, while Erin Cox and Kierra Riley each added four kills apiece. Riley, who leads the team in blocks with 35, added three, while Delissa Carline led the Lady Bears with eight digs. Christa Rogers, who finished with 10 assists and Cheryl Savoy both added five digs.

 

The host Retrievers, who improved to 4-9 on the season, controlled the entire match. UMBC finished with 33 kills, 11 service aces and had a hitting percentage of .299 for the match, while committing 10 errors. Morgan State totaled 19 kills, but committed 24 errors for a hitting percentage of -.063. The Lady Bears tallied on service ace, but had six service errors.     

 

The Lady Bears will now get ready for this weekend's upcoming West Point Challenge, hosted by Army. Morgan State begins the tournament on Friday, Sept. 18 with a 10 a.m. match-up against Quinnipiac and then takes on Binghamton at 4 p.m. After a day off, the Lady Bears conclude play on Sunday, Sept. 20 with a non-conference match against Iowa at 9 a.m., before taking on host Army at noon.
