Top-Ranked Bears continue to roll with win over Florida A&M, 75-57

BALTIMORE, Md. -- While everybody was scrambling for flowers and chocolates today, Morgan State was busy extending its winning streak.
The No. 1 Bears rolled to their fifth straight win, a 75-57 victory over the Rattlers and avenged an earlier loss to Florida A&M in Tallahassee.
Reggie Holmes scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and Kevin Thompson added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Bears, who collected their fifth consecutive win since Jan. 31. The win also marked the Bears' longest winning streak since the 2007-08 season.
Marquise Kately and Jermaine Bolden added 12 points apiece for the Bears (15-10, 9-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who held Florida A&M to 28.6 percent (14-49) shooting for the night.
Brandon Bryant had 16 points and Dale Hughes 15 for Florida a&M (6-17, 4-7), which has extended their losing streak to six straight.
Though Morgan State never trailed, the Rattlers got within 37-30 when Larry Jackson hit two free throws 2 minutes into the second half. But the Bears responded with an 8-2 run to take control.
The Bears ran away with the game when Holmes caught fire and scored 10 points during a five minute stretch to extend their lead to 65-44 with 7:30 remaining.
Bolden, the conference leader in assists (4.7 apg), finished with a game-high 5 assists and one turnover.
Morgan State dominated the post where they out-rebounded the Rattlers by a 49-33 margin and scored 38 points in the paint.
Next up for Morgan State is Bethune-Cookman on Monday night at Hill Field House.
Morgan State, which improved to 6-2 at home this season, has won 13 of its last 17 contests.
Morgan State wasted little time in building a 19-5 lead over the course of the first eight minutes.
The Bears defense held Florida A&M to 6-for-25 (24%) shooting, 20 percent (1-5 3FG) from beyond the arc and turned the Ratters over eight times in the first half. Morgan State's largest lead of the first half was 19 points with 6:08.
