BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 11, 2009)-Howard's Gazelle d'Artois tallied a match-high 20 kills and hit for a match-high .514 to lead the visiting Lady Bison to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-11) sweep of Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match at Hill Field House on Sunday evening.

 

Jasmine King recorded 35 assists, marking her second consecutive match with 30 or more assists and Nicole Brown finished with a team-high 12 digs in the win to help Howard (6-18, 2-0 MEAC) spoil Morgan State's homecoming match.

 

Morgan State (5-16, 0-2 MEAC), which has now lost its last six matches, also suffered its 14th shutout loss of the season. Erin Cox led Morgan State with a team-high 11 kills, while Ivanti Bush added nine. Rhyan Shy led the Lady Bears in digs, while tying a match-high with 12 digs and also notched a career-high seven service aces in the match.

 

The Lady Bison finished the match with 40 kills and a hitting percentage of .402. Howard had a best 16 kills in the second set and put together a match-high .667 hitting percentage in the third set with 12 kills on 18 attempts and no errors.

 

Morgan State tallied 30 kills for the match with a hitting percentage of .120. The Lady Bears recorded identical statistics of 12 kills on 33 attempts and six errors and a hitting percentage of .182 in the first two sets, but was limited to six kills on 26 attempts and seven errors for a hitting percentage of -.038 in the final set.

 

Morgan State returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when it travels to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington in a non-conference match at the Charles E. Smith Center. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
