Reggie Holmes has had a highly productive week for the Bears.
The junior guard entered tonight's game fresh off of a 25-point performance in an historic win against the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday night. Holmes continued his hot shooting by scoring a game-high 26 points to lead the Bears to a 73-62 win over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent North Carolina A&T on Saturday at Hill Field House.
Morgan State (7-8) has won five of its last seven games and hold a 2-0 record in MEAC play.
Senior guard
Rogers Barnes also made a huge contribution for the Bears tonight. Barnes, a former walk-on, scored 18 of his career-high 24 points in the first half. Barnes was absolutely on fire and finished the game by connecting on 10-of-13 shots and was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Barnes opened the game by scoring the Bears' first 16 points, including a thunderous putback slam to give MSU a 16-13 edge with 12:58 remaining in the half.
N.C. A&T (6-9, 1-1 MEAC) started the game by making their first four three-pointers early in the half but then cooled off from the perimeter. The Aggies shot 32.4 percent (11-for-34) from the field in the first half and finished the game shooting 37.9 percent (25-for-66), including 4-for-18 from three-point territory.
Holmes notched back-to-back three-pointers to help the Bears put together a 12-4 run to close the first half with a 39-29 advantage.
MSU scored the first six points of the second half and a baseline throwdown dunk by Holmes gave the Bears its largest lead of the game at 48-31 with 17:16 left to go.
The Aggies battled back and Thomas Coleman's putback cut the lead to 65-57 with 55 seconds left, but couldn't pull any closer as the Bears finished off the Aggies from the free throw line by making eight straight.
Holmes finished the game a perfect 9-for-9 from the stripe.
Jermaine Bolden chipped in six points and posted a career-high 11 assists, including two perfectly thrown alley-oop passes to senior forward
Marquise Kately -- one from just around half court. Kately was steady with eight points and eight rebounds.
Ed Jones scored 19 points and Robert Johnson added 11 for the Aggies, who have lost six of their past seven.
Morgan State will host Norfolk State (3-10, 1-1 MEAC) on Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Hill Field House.
