WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 12, 2008)-Morgan State's Rhyan Shy, who was making her return to the team after suffering an injury at the season opening Quinnipiac Invitational (Aug. 29-30), tallied a team- and season-high seven kills to lead the Lady Bears to their first win of the season, following a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-15) non-conference victory over Saint Francis-N.Y. in the opening match of the Georgetown Classic on Friday morning at McDonough Arena.

With the victory, Morgan State (1-9) ended its nine-match losing skid to start the season and improved to 3-0 all-time against Saint Francis-N.Y.

Shy, who was injured in the second match of the season against Quinnipiac, also added a match-high six digs, two service aces, an assist and a block in her first match back to the court. Erica Turnbull and Erin Cox added five kills each for the Lady Bears. Christa Rogers, who finished with a match-high 14 assists, also notched six of Morgan's 17 service aces, while Dina Beamon added five.

Morgan State, which had been playing the majority of the season without Shy along with Dominique Bozier, who returned to the floor on Tuesday at Loyola and Ivanti Bush, also welcomed the return of another player on Friday in junior Camille Coleman, who hadn't seen action since the 2006 season and was coming off an injury at the start of last season.

Coleman, who saw limited action against Saint Francis-N.Y., checked into the match during the third set with the Lady Bears ahead 21-10. With Morgan leading 23-14, Coleman would record back-to-back kills, her first of the season to end the set and give Morgan State the victory.

The Terriers (0-8) were led by Detelina Dimitrova, who finished with a match-high eight kills. Liliana Rodriguez totaled a team-high six digs and Toni Rich had 10 assists.

The Lady Bears return to action later this evening when they face Brown at 4:30 p.m. at McDonough Arena. The Bears of Brown defeated James Madison, 3-1 earlier in the day.
