DOVER, Del. -- Terrance Hunter led four players in double figures with 17 points in Delaware State’s 68-53 win over Morgan State Monday evening.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Hornets, who improved to 4-10 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC.
Morgan State lost its fifth straight to fall to 3-11 and 1-3. Jahsha Bluntt and Aaron Williams had 13 points each, while Darrin Shine added 10 for the Hornets. Chris Grant was the only Morgan State player in double figures with 15 points.
Delaware State hit 23 of its 38 shots form the field (60.5%), including six of 10 from three-point territory. Delaware State never trailed in the contest. The Hornets led by as many as eight in the first half, and held a 28-23 advantage at intermission.
Morgan State pulled to within 33-29 on two free throws by Sam Brand with 15:30 left to play. Delaware State answered with a 14-2 run, and opened up a 47-31 lead on a three-pointer by Bluntt with 10:17 remaining. Morgan State rallied again, and trailed 50-44 on a three-point play by Tim Berkley with 5:55 left.
Delaware State responded with a 9-1 run, and opened up a 59-45 lead on a lay up by Hunter with 4:37 left.
Morgan State will be back in action when they host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, January 15 at Hill Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
