The Morgan State Lady Bears sprinted to a 16 point 1st half lead, but could not hang on as they fell to Yale 79-70 in New Haven, CT on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Bears took control of the game early and grabbed a 14-6 lead 5 minutes into the contest. MSU shot a sizzling 56% from the field in the 1st half as the lead would grow to 16 points at the 8:28 mark when Javone Davis nailed a 3-pointer.
Yale would continue to chip away at the Morgan State advantage, however the Lady Bears would take a 42-35 lead into intermission.
Yale began to take control early in the 2nd half. They came out of the locker room and went on a 13-0 run to begin the half. The run gave Yale a lead they would never give up.
Morgan State would mount several runs, and kept the game close, but could never reclaim the lead.
MSU out-shot Yale 45% to 44% from the field. However, Morgan was a big loser on the boards. The Lady Bears were out-rebounded 56-28.
At the free throw line Yale also enjoyed a considerable advantage. Morgan was only 5 of 14 from the line while Yale hit 19 of 28 charity tosses.
Markeda Hollingsworth led the way for Morgan State with a career high 20 point performance. Hollingsworth also dished out a team high 5 assists.
MSU got a season high 15 point performance from Whitney Johnson, who also had 4 steals in the game.
Javone Davis had an 11 point effort and Sharonda Watson had 10 points before fouling out after playing only 18 points.
Yale was led by Tory Mauseth who had a 22 point day.
The Lady Bears return to action on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2004 to entertain Texas Pan-American in a game scheduled to tip-off at 2:00p.m.
