MSU Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Victory Over Delaware State

Box Score

The Morgan State Lady Bears will enter MEAC Tounament play on a winning note. MSU defeated Delaware State on Thursday night 3-1 (30-27, 29-31, 30-26, 30-26).

The Lady Bears (18-18, 6-4 MEAC) were in a tough battle against the Lady Hornets, but managed to hang on to put DSU away and atone for a loss to Delaware State last month in Dover, DE.

MSU put together a good combination of passing, serving and blocking to control most of the match.

The Lady Bears held DSU to .066 hitting for the evening, while hitting .144 for the night.

MSU was led by Mandisa Richardson who collected 22 kills, 14 digs and 6 total blocks.

Freshman Esther Johnson made a big contribution with 18 kills and 17 digs.  MSU right side Korinne Lewis made a big splash with 13 kills for the night.

Freshman libero Ashley Preston recorded a career high 28 digs. Ashley has made a big impression in her freshman season. She has 477 digs this season, that's the most digs any Morgan State player has ever had in a single season. She broke the record previously held by Jakaria Stewart. Ms. Stewart had 411 digs in 1995.

Esther Johnson is also closing in on a single season record. She has 469 kills this year, and is only two kills shy of the MSU all-time single season kill record of 471 currently held by Java Johnson (2000).
