The Morgan State Lady Bears (12-13, 4-1 MEAC) suffered their first MEAC defeat Monday night, dropping a 5-Game heartbreaker to Delaware State 3-2 (30-26, 23-30, 27-30, 30-22, 16-18).
The loss at Memorial Hall on the Delaware State campus ended a 5-match MSU winning streak. It was the first time MSU has been beaten by Delaware State since 1993.
The Lady Bears got off to a win in Game 1, but a scrappy Lady Hornet squad recorded back to back wins in Games 2 & 3. MSU fought back to take Game 4 , however DSU survived two match points to put away the Lady Bears in Game 5.
Esther Johnson led the way for MSU with 21 kills. Ashley Alexander had 12 kills and 7 total blocks. Mandisa Richardson collected 11 kills while Ashley Preston had a 21 dig performance.
The Lady Hornets were led by Laura Huculak who had 20 kills.
The Lady Bears return to action this weekend in Princess Anne, MD to participate in the MEAC Round-Up. The three day event matches MEAC North Division squads against teams from the South Division.
MSU will play Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T on Friday, October 15th. The Lady Bears will tackle and try to tame the Florida contingent of the MEAC on Saturday with matches against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. The Lady Bears complete the weekend with a Sunday match against South Carolina State.
