Kim Ross-Watkins

A Morgan alum of the Class of ’86, Kim Ross-Watkins returned to her alma mater in 1991 as the Assistant Cheer Coach of the Morgan State University Cheerleading Team. As Assistant Cheer Coach, Ross-Watkins has been instrumental in the development and legacy of the award winning Cheer Bears.  Under her tutelage, the cheerleading team has won 10 MEAC conference titles, 2 Black college national titles, and finished as high as 2nd place in the NCA national cheerleading championships.  She maintained her title as Assistant Cheer Coach until 2015.  

In 1993, Ross-Watkins assumed the duties of Academic Coordinator for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.  As Academic Coordinator, Ross-Watkins served as the department’s academic advisor for 280+ student-athletes.  
In addition to her duties as academic coordinator, she also served as Life Skills Coordinator and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor.  

In 1999, she established the annual Dr. Charles Salters Scholar Athlete Brunch.  Named after Dr. Charles Salters, who served as the Faculty Athletics Representative from 1997- 2000, this program acknowledges the academic accomplishments and achievements of student-athletes. 

In 2015, she was promoted to her current position of Asst. to the Director of Athletics/Director of Life Skills.   

During her tenure as Academic Coordinator, Ross-Watkins served three years as Post-Graduate Scholarship Committee chair of the Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA), two years on Post Graduate Scholarship Committee of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and currently serving on the NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Committee since 2016.  

Ross-Watkins was honored by the All-American Football Foundation in 2003 as Outstanding Academic Coordinator and is also a graduate of the 2007 class of the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females.  She was inducted into the Morgan State University Varsity M Club Hall of Fame in September 2015.  

Ross-Watkins is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).  She received her BA in Telecommunications from Morgan State in 1986 and her MA in Teaching from Morgan State in 1999.  She resides in Nottingham, MD with her husband, Maurice.
