Randy Smith

Randy Smith's arrival at Morgan State as an Athletic Academic Coordinator in the spring of 2025. His role is crucial in ensuring student-athletes maintain academic eligibility and thrive in their studies while balancing the demands of their respective sports.

Smith brings a wealth of experience to this new role, having dedicated the past 13 years to higher education. Before joining the present institution, Smith spent six years at Howard University, contributing significantly to [mention specific department or area of work]. This followed a seven-year tenure at Delaware State University, Smith's alma mater, where they held a comparable position.

Smith is coming in with over 15 years of experience and takes pride working with student athlete’s helping them to succeed on and off their prospective playing field. Being a former student athlete himself, Smith understands what it takes to be a successful student athlete and has a clear understanding what student athlete’s needs on a day to day basis.

During his time as a student-athlete at Delaware State University, Smith demonstrated a commitment to both his athletic pursuits and his academic endeavors. He strategically pursued his education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management in 2007, laying a solid foundation for his future career. Showing further dedication to the field, Smith continued his education at Delaware State and obtained a Master's degree in Sports Administration in 2009.

Currently at MSU, Smith dedicates his efforts to the football program where his goal is to ensure that these young men succeed not just on the playing field but also in life.

Smith's arrival promises a wealth of knowledge and a diverse range of skills and philosophies, all shaped by his unique background. Beyond his professional contributions, Smith is a well-rounded individual who enjoys an active lifestyle and a variety of enriching hobbies. He finds pleasure in sporting activities, delving into literature, and immersing himself in music. Above all, Smith cherishes the time he spends with his family. He is happily married to Lawan Laner-Smith, and together they are the proud parents of two children, Jabari and Lauryn Smith.
