Kevin C. Paige enters his 20th year as the assistant director of media relations for the Morgan State University Athletics Department.
Paige, who joined the MSU athletics staff in July of 2005, serves as the primary contact for volleyball, women’s cross country, women's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's tennis, women’s bowling, women’s basketball and softball. In addition, Paige assists with credential requests, media interviews, website content, the writing and editing of athletic publications and media guides and conducts all post-game interviews with Morgan State student-athletes and coaches following home football and men’s and women’s basketball games.
Paige recently served as the media coordinator for Morgan State's 2024 softball team as they participated in the Durham Region of the NCAA Tournament, as well as the historic 2021 team, which captured the program's first MEAC title and NCAA appearance in the Norman Region.
He also served as the media coordinator for the Lady Bears basketball team’s 2023 First Round appearance in the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). It was the program's second appearance. In 2011 the Lady Bears made history, as they appeared in the First Round of the WNIT, which was the program’s first postseason appearance on the Division I level.
Prior to that, he assisted director of media relations, Leonard Haynes IV and the men’s basketball team with their back-to-back NCAA Tournament first round appearances in 2009 (Kansas City, Mo.) and 2010 (Buffalo, N.Y.), respectively.
Prior to arriving at Morgan State, Paige served four years at nearby Coppin State College (now Coppin State University) as assistant director of athletics communications from 2001-2005. While at Coppin he was responsible for the daily coverage of volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s bowling, men’s basketball and baseball teams.
A native of Rockville, Md., Paige began his career in sports information at his alma mater Howard University, where he spent two years in the sports information office as both an assistant and as a student. While at Howard Paige served on the sports staff of the school’s student newspaper “The Hilltop” and was a sports correspondent for the Gazette Newspapers in Montgomery County, Md., as well as BET Magazine.
In 1997, he was one of 10 students selected to participate in the Associated Press Sports Journalism Institute, sponsored by Sports Illustrated, where he later graduated that summer and studied at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla. From there he went on to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where he covered the 1997 NBA Draft, Fresca Cycling Classic, the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He also covered the unveiling of the Negro League Wall of Fame at the former Milwaukee County Stadium and his feature story on the fascination of hit ‘foul balls’ with fans, was picked up by the Scripts Howard wire service.
Paige also had stints in the sports department of the Washington Post and as the media relations coordinator of the Washington Chiefs Minor League football team. In 2000 he served as a public relations intern for the Baltimore Ravens as they captured Super Bowl XXXV. He currently assists the Ravens’ media relations department with their post-game operations, by conducting player interviews.
Paige is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA).
