Alonzo Allen has been named assistant wrestling coach, first-year head coach Kenny Monday announced on Feb 25, 2023.
 
Allen has served as the head wrestling coach at Rockdale County High School (Conyers, Ga.) since August 2019, where he reshaped the Bulldogs program and accomplished his goal of bringing titles back to his alma mater. 
 
"I'm very excited to add Alonzo Allen to our coaching staff," said MSU coach Kenny Monday. "Alonzo brings a great wrestling knowledge foundation, along with good Division 1 experience. Alonzo will serve as my lightweight specialist, as well as my recruiting coordinator."
 
With experience as a head coach, Allen led fundraising efforts, developed and implemented practice plans and strategies, and organized all equipment needs, all while mentoring student-athletes and creating a positive environment that stressed success on and off the mat.
 
"I am excited to be joining the Morgan State staff to help put the wrestling program on the map," said Allen. "All the days you wake up, you got one job and that's to get better every single day. Go Bears!"
 
Allen was a four-year starter at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga where he won the Southern Conference title in 2018 and was a two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier. Allen chose the Mocs' program after fielding interest from Nebraska, Iowa Central and Brewton-Parker College.
 
A native of Conyers, Ga Allen was a prep standout for the Rockdale Bulldogs where he finished his senior campaign (2013-14) with a 45-1 record. He also captured his second consecutive state title, bringing home top honors in the 113-pound weight class. 
 
Along the way, Allen captured first place finishes at the South Metro and East Metro meets this season, as well as earning third place All-American honors at the 25th Annual National High School Coaches Association Wrestling Championships.
 
Over his four seasons with the Rockdale program, Allen compiled a 163-12 record, capturing his first state title last season in the 106-pound weight class. Allen finished as the 106-pound runner-up his freshman and sophomore seasons.
 
Allen received his bachelor's degree in HHP Sports and Leisure Sports from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in 2018. 

Allen and his wife, Jordan, have a daughter, Namaari-Rae.
