Wanika Owsley

Wanika Owsley, who is in her second stint at Morgan State, enters her sixth season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Lady Bears’ basketball program.

Owsley had previously spent the 2009-10 season at Morgan State, where she helped the Lady Bears to a 17-13 record and a then school-best third-place regular season finish in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Owsley returns to Morgan State after spending two seasons as an assistant coach on the Mississippi State women’s basketball staff.

Prior to her first stint at Morgan State, Owsley spent three years as the top assistant at Jefferson (Mo.) Community College, going 97-9 during that span. Owsley recruited one national junior college player of the year and four All-Americans. Two of the teams were academic teams of the year which included six academic All-Americans.

Owsley began her collegiate career as a point guard at Southeastern Illinois (Junior) College, helping to lead her team to its first Region 24 championship and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.

She concluded her career at Southeast Missouri State, where she helped the Redhawks to a 46-16 overall record and their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance during her senior season. She was the captain and led both teams in assists.

Owsley is a native of Indianapolis, Ind. and earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science.
