Jamie Smith enters her first season as an assistant coach with the Morgan State women’s basketball program. Smith joined the coaching staff in November of 2021.
No stranger to Morgan State, Smith returns to her alma mater after spending three/four seasons with the Purple Eagles of Niagara. Smith served as the Director of Women's Basketball Operations for Niagara during the 2017-18 season before being promoted to an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season.
Before Niagara, Smith served as the graduate assistant coach at Alfred University, where she was a defensive coordinator and handled recruiting.
Prior to Alfred, Smith worked as a volunteer assistant coach at Daytona State Community College from 2015-16 and she served as a coaching intern at George Mason from 2013-15.
Smith played college basketball at the Division I level from 2008-12, beginning her career at Saint Peter’s before transferring to Morgan State after her freshman season. She was a three-year starter at point guard for the Lady Bears, as well as serving as a team captain.
During the 2010-11 campaign, Smith was a part of a historical run by the Lady Bears, as she helped Morgan State lock up the No. 2 seed in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) during the regular season, reach the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament and advance to the program’s first-ever postseason appearance on the Division I level.
Smith, who averaged 6.0 points and pulled down 1.6 rebounds that season, finished with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-3 from three-point range, grabbed two rebounds and had a steal at Virginia in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on March 17, 2011.
Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and integrated media from Morgan State in 2014 and began her Master’s of Business Administration at Alfred University.
