Biography
2009 (Freshman): Came to Morgan State in January of 2009, joining the indoor track team and making an immediate impact…Rewrote the Morgan State distance record books, breaking the school mark in the 3000 and 5000 (14:23.54), as well as being a member of the record setting and IC4A qualifying distance medley relay team (10:09.59)…Helped the team to its highest indoor MEAC finish since the 90s (2nd place), as he scored a victory to become the school’s first MEAC champion in the 5000m…Won his section of the mile at conference championships, but did not make finals…Finished ninth at the IC4A championships in the 5000 and set a school record, which was the first time in school history that a Bear distance runner finished that high in the prestigious meet…He continued making history during the outdoor season, as he went unbeaten in the regular season and set school records in the 1500 (3:53.29) and 5000 (14:11.98)…Captured the MEAC championship in the 1500 and 5000 meters and was an IC4A and NCAA East Regional qualifier…Named team MVP and was nominated for Morgan State male athlete of the year.
High School: Attended Kitui High in Kitui, Kenya.
Personal: Born Dec. 30, 1986…Son of David Muia and Muthoki David…Has four siblings, Tyson, Annie, Florence and Boniface…Older brother Tyson is an NCAA All-American who runs for the University of Alabama and was coached by Morgan State assistant coach Ralph Jones as a freshman and sophomore at Central Arizona College…Major is accounting.
