Theresa Gibson, a former Morgan State Cheerleader (1978-1982), has been coaching the Cheer Bears since 1983.  Theresa has served as Chairperson of the MEAC Cheer Coaches and can claim 14 MEAC conference titles.

Under Gibson and Kim Ross-Watkins, the Cheer Bears chalked up many "firsts" as an HBCU Cheer Team.  They are still the only HBCU team to compete in the sport of  College "STUNT" in which they finished second behind NC State in the sport's inaugural year.  As one of only a few HBCU cheer teams to compete at NCA Nationals annually, the Cheer Bears have been ranked as high as 2nd in the Division I All-Girl category and 3rd in the All-Girl I Intermediate category.

In addition to her coaching duties, Theresa has also held numerous positions at the University. In 1983, Gibson initially began her professional career in Morgan State's Public Relations office as the Feature Specialist.  In 1985 she joined the Athletics Department where she eventually settled into the Sports Information Office before completing her masters degree.

Gibson was recently named Assistant Athletic Director for Intramurals and Wellness after serving as a faculty member and advisor for the School of Education and Urban Studies for close to three decades.

Gibson is an AACCA certified coach and is a member of NIRSA, USA Cheer Coaches Association, Maryland Cheer Judges, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
