Student-Athlete Spotlight: Brittany Meads, Track & Field

Brittany Meads
Junior Sprinter/Relays, Track & Field
Joppa, Md.
Major: Political Science

Morgan State women’s track and field member Brittany Meads would like nothing else than to conclude what has been a successful junior season with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Track & Field Championship and possibly advance to the NCAA Championship.

Meads, who competes in a variety of individual events ranging from the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes, is also a constant on the Lady Bears’ 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams. She currently ranks 16th in both the 100m (11.96) and 200m (24.47). Morgan State’s 4X400 relay team has run the fastest time in the MEAC this season at 3:43.07 during the Aggie Invitational, while the 4X100 team ranks second with a time of 45.83 that they set at the Penn Relays.

A native of Joppa, Md., Meads began the outdoor season placing third in both the 100m and 200m dashes and helped the 4X100m relay team claim gold in the High Point University Kick-Off Meet.

Meads and her teammates would shine again, this time in front of the home crowd, as they captured gold in both the 4X100 and 4X400 relays at the MSU Legacy Meet to help Morgan State to a second-place team finish.

Last week at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa., Meads and her 4X400 relay teammates placed third in the ECAC Finals at the Penn Relays with a time of 3:43.34, while the 4X100 team would set a new season-best time of 45.83 in the preliminary heats.

Meads and the Lady Bears begin their quest for their first MEAC Outdoor title since 2005, when the MEAC Track & Field Championships (May 4-6) get underway later today at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.
