BALTIMORE, Md. (March 22, 2026)--The Morgan State softball team earned its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series win of the season, following a doubleheader split on Sunday afternoon against North Carolina Central at Lois T. Murray Field. The Lady Bears won the first game 14-13 in eight innings, before losing to the Eagles 10-0 in five innings.

Morgan State improved to 5-16, 2-4 in the MEAC, while NCCU dropped to 5-23, 4-2 MEAC.

The Game 1 victory coupled with Saturday's win, gave the Lady Bears the series victory and helped Morgan State earn back-to-back series win. Earlier in the week, the Lady Bears swept its non-conference road doubleheader against North Carolina A&T.

The first game was an offensive display, as the two teams combined for 27 runs on 36 hits. Morgan State totaled 14 runs on 20 hits and the Eagles finished with 13 runs on 16 hits.

Tied at 12-12 at the end of regulation, the teams would need an extra inning. The Eagles scored a run in the top of the eighth when Janea Hudson grounded out to short to score Kendal Daniels to give the guests a 13-12 lead.

Morgan State would tie the game at 13 all when Denver Obermyer doubled to right field to score
Hunter Newman for the tying run.
Gianna Ettore later singled to center field to score Obermyer for the game winning run.
Â
The Eagles began the scoring with two runs in the first inning and the Lady Bears responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, capped off by Obermyer's two-run homer to left field to put the hosts ahead 4-2.

NCCU then put up four runs of its own in the second inning to reclaim the lead 6-4. Tyler Suttles highlighted the inning with her three-run triple to left center to put the guests up 5-4.

Morgan State got three runs back in the bottom of the second to go back up by a run at 7-6.
Cassie White, who singled up the middle to score
Dejah Jones, later scored when
Millie Cousins doubled to left field.
Olivia Pagano singled to right field to score Cousins for the seventh run.
Â
N.C. Central wasn't done, as it went back to work with three more runs in the third when Suttles doubled to right center to score two runs and Izabella Chavez singled to left field to score Suttles to give the Eagles a 9-7 advantage.

After holding Morgan State without a run in the bottom of the third, the Eagles continued to score, adding two more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-7.

The Lady Bears would get back into the scoring with three runs in the fourth when Ettore tripled to right field to score Obermyer and
Rylee Hyde. Ettore later scored on a wild pitch to cut the NCCU lead to 11-10.

NCCU went up 12-10 in the fifth when Chavez singled up the middle to score Daiyah Bailey. Morgan evened the score in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles hit up the middle by
Olivia Garner and
Alison Keener to tie the score at 12 runs apiece to set the stage for the extra inning.

Newman finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored while Obermeyer went 3-for-5 with three runs and 3 RBI.
Olivia Garner also had three hits, a run and RBI. Ettore finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run, while Pagano recorded two hits, 2 RBI and a run.

Cousins received the win and improved to 4-7 in the circle. Cousins pitched 5.2 innings and tallied a game-high five strikeouts.

Suttles led NCCU with three hits, three runs and a game-high 6 RBI. Hannah McGonigle was 3-for-4 with two runs and RBI and Chavez finished with two hits and 3 RBI.

The second game was all North Carolina Central. The Eagles would score 10 runs on seven hits and took advantage of four Morgan State errors.

NCCU scored a run in the first inning and added four more in the third, highlighted by McGonigle's three-run single to left field to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles concluded the scoring, putting together five more runs in the fourth, for the game's final score.
Â
Morgan State will travel to the Nation's Capital on Wednesday, March 25 to face George Washington in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. at GW Softball Field in Washington, D.C.
