TOWSON, Md. (March 1, 2026)--Morgan State closed out the 2026 DeMarini Tiger Clash on Sunday afternoon recording a season-high 13 hits but also had a season-high 13 runners left on base, resulting in an 8-4 loss to host Towson in the finale at Tiger Softball Stadium.
Â
Hunter Newman put Morgan State on top 1-0 in the first inning with her solo home run to left field. The Tigers responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first, capped off with a bases loaded walk to put Towson ahead 3-1.
Â
Towson (9-7) increased its lead to 4-1 in the second, when Mackenzie Gorczyca singled up the middle to score Kaci Benton.
Â
Morgan State (0-10) got the offense going and took advantage of two Towson errors to plate three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the score at 4-4. Following a walk by
Olivia Garner to load the bases,
Denver Obermeyer singled to left field to score
Dejah Jones, narrowing Towson's lead to 4-2.
Serena Rodriguez stepped in the box and hit a two-run single to left field to bring home
Millie Cousins and Garner to even the score at four runs apiece with bases still loaded and no outs. However, the Lady Bears were unable to inflict further damage, as Towson pitching would strike out the next three Morgan batters to get out the inning.
Â
Towson took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Isabella Canesi reached first base on an error that scored Leah Mears to put the Tigers in front 5-4.
Â
The hosts would add three more runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Benton to right center, followed by Addie Ferguson's two-run single to center field for the game's final score. Â
Â
Morgan State finished the game scoring four runs on 13 hits and committed two errors, while Towson scored eight runs on six hits and also had two errors.
Â
Olivia Pagano led the Lady Bears with three hits, while Cousins, Garner and
Rylee Hyde all recorded two hits. Rodriguez finished with a team-high 2 RBI and struck out two batters in five innings.
