Morgan State Wrestling Drops Road Dual at American

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 8, 2026) — The Morgan State wrestling team fell 38–10 to American University on a Super Bowl Sunday afternoon, earning three individual victories in an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) dual held at the Alan and Amy Meltzer Center in Washington, D.C.

American claimed the first three bouts with bonus points before No. 28 Eugene Harney stepped onto the mat against Leo Maestas at 149 pounds. Maestas fought off an early takedown midway through the first period, but Harney opened the second with an escape and quickly shifted the momentum. Harney added a takedown, built 55 seconds of riding time, and entered the final period with a 4–1 lead. He closed strong, securing another takedown and back points to earn a 10–1 major decision and put the Bears on the scoreboard. American padded their lead with a win by forfeit at 157 pounds.

American extended its lead with a forfeit victory at 157 pounds, but Morgan State answered with back-to-back wins. At 165 pounds, Josh Greenwood earned a hard-fought 6–3 decision over Austin Craft. Cort Van followed at 174 pounds, opening the bout with a single-leg takedown against Hunter Holman and riding that momentum to a 7–3 decision to cut American's lead to 20–10.

The Eagles closed the dual with pins at 184 and 197 pounds and a forfeit at 285 to seal the 38–10 victory.

With the win, American improved to 6–8 overall and 2–3 in EIWA action.

Morgan State will look to rebound on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when the Bears travel to Lancaster, Pa., to take on Franklin & Marshall College.
