Morgan State Wrestling Battles No. 16 Lehigh in EIWA Home Dual

The Bears fall 34–9 at Hurt Gymnasium.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 6, 2026) — The Morgan State wrestling team returned home Friday night for an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) dual meet against No. 16 Lehigh University at Hurt Gymnasium. The Bears showed grit against a nationally ranked lineup but ultimately fell, 34–9, to the Mountain Hawks.

Morgan State earned the first win of the evening at 125 pounds as Julian Dawson delivered an exciting start to the dual. Dawson trailed 3–1 after the first period before responding with a two-point reversal in the second to knot the bout at 3–3. In the third period, Dawson built a 56-second riding time advantage and sealed the victory with a last-second takedown, securing a 7–3 decision to give the Bears an auspicious beginning.

Lehigh responded with wins at 133 and 141 pounds, scoring bonus points behind a technical fall and a pin, respectively, to take an 11–3 lead.

The matchup at 149 pounds featured a highly anticipated bout between No. 28 Eugene Harney and Lehigh's Carter Bailey, and it did not disappoint. Harney held a 4–3 lead after the first period before Bailey applied pressure to take a 5–4 advantage. Harney answered with a late takedown in the third period to force overtime, tied at 7–7. In the extra session, Harney scored the decisive takedown to earn the victory and improve his season record to 22–4.

Lehigh continued to build its lead with wins in the next two bouts, as Logan Royzynski earned a decision at 157 pounds and Max Brignola followed with a technical fall at 165 to extend the Mountain Hawks' advantage to 19–6.

Morgan State returned to the scoreboard at 174 pounds when Cort Vann secured a late takedown against Zeke Dubler to pull out a 4–2 decision.

The Mountain Hawks closed the dual with three bonus-point victories to seal the 34–9 final.

With the win, Lehigh improved to 9–6 overall and remained perfect in EIWA competition at 4–0. Morgan State will look to rebound on Sunday, Feb. 8, when the Bears travel to Washington, D.C., to face American.

"We've got to keep training hard and keep working as a team," said head coach Kenny Monday. "Our guys have to continue wrestling for each other and stay focused. There are a few mistakes we need to clean up, but the biggest thing is continuing to get better every time we step on the mat."
